Why Yoga is Great for Weight Loss

Yoga is an ideal exercise for many ailments in your life, from anxiety, to stress, to injury rehabilitation, to weight loss. Yes, weight loss. Especially for those over 40! The reason, you ask? Studies have proven that yoga lowers the levels of released stress hormones and increases your sensitivity to insulin. This kind of internal, organic change signals your body to burn your intake food as fuel, instead of storing it in your thighs as fat. Thus, simply doing yoga can increase your metabolism, even at an older age.

Not only will yoga help with your weight loss via increased metabolism, but the stretching and pose holding that is required of yoga practice will help your stretch out those stubborn, fatty areas, and increase your flexibility, which, in turn, increases your ability to battle injury.

Yoga practice is great for working all of the target areas of the body that most of us are most self-conscious about: butt, legs, abs, and arms. With a solid, regular yoga routine, you could be looking and feeling better from the inside out in just a matter of weeks!

The best part about yoga practice? It doesn’t require expensive equipment or a personal trainer or tacky workout videos: all you need is your body and your breath (and a mat if you so prefer).

To get the most out of your yoga practice, it is important to focus on your breathing and posture. Yoga has an endless array of various poses that help with different physical and mental ailments, and it is absolutely vital that posture and breath be focused on in order to see any desired results.
